TEC-CDC’s mission is to build Philadelphia neighborhoods where people are willing and able to create the organization needed to achieve their common goals.
TEC-CDC’s comprehensive neighborhood plan for the Walnut Hill neighborhood extending between 45th and 52nd from Market to Spruce is a collaborative effort with the Walnut Hill Community Association, a coalition of elected officials, business owners, residents, educational institutions, and faith groups. Overall, the Walnut Hill plan incorporates the collective vision and commitment of 527 residents.
The Walnut Hill Street Team is a group of 10 passionate residents which travels door to- door each month to provide some 3,000 neighborhood families with vital information about the programs and resources that are available to them, such as the Tenant Union Representative Network and other local organizations.
TEC-CDC’s successes have included joining forces with the Merchants’ Fund, Deloitte, and the University of Pennsylvania to provide grants and technical assistance to local small businesses. TEC-CDC was chosen as one of four partner Community Development Centers as part of Philadelphia’s Sustainable Communities Initiative in West Philadelphia.
