West Philly Foods is part of a larger food system operated by The Enterprise Center Community Development Corporation (TEC-CDC)TEC-CDC is a community and economic development nonprofit focused on bringing positive change to the Walnut Hill neighborhood and surrounding communities in West Philadelphia. Founded by and an affiliate of The Enterprise Center (TEC), an accomplished minority business accelerator, TEC-CDC extends TEC’s entrepreneurial mission to the neighborhood level, with a focus on building community capacity for change, helping small businesses grow, and increasing healthy food access.

Supporting a Local Food System from Farmer to Food Entrepreneur

West Philly Foods supports food entrepreneurs in TEC-CDC’s Dorrance H. Hamilton Center for Culinary Enterprises (CCE), a 13,000 square foot incubator kitchen. Through West Philly Foods, community members have the unique opportunity to receive local products made at the CCE, such as jams, bread, and bacon. Through this work our goal is to support a local food economy, from farmer to food entrepreneur.   

Our Urban Farm and Farm Stand

Our urban farm has a core mission and goal to grow all of our produce naturally and chemical-free. This means that we grow our produce without the use of chemical or synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Employing organic growing methods means that the weekly produce you receive is delicious, safe, and healthier than produce grown using industrial methods. Our farm is completely off the grid, collecting rain water and using solar power to pump the water to our field and greenhouse. We have weekly farm stands selling our produce and locally made food products at our farm stand on site, as well as at the Penn Bookstore Farmer’s Market.

Supporting Walnut Hill Residents 

West Philly Foods addresses equitable food access in Walnut Hill through its farm stand, entering its fourth season in operation. The farm stand offers a variety of local fruits and vegetables at a reduced price and accepts cash, debit, and electronic benefits transfer (EBT), as well as Seniors Farmers Market Nutritional Program vouchers as payment options.
